The Movilla Army Cadets have won three trophies at the Bateson Challenge weekend in Ballykinler, which took place on the 2nd and 3rd of February. The army cadet team, who have been based in Movilla High School since September 2012, won all but one of the trophies available at the challenge weekend.

Jim Jackson, who trains the cadets and helped lead them to their victories, with the aid of his two civilian assistants, Mr Forbes and Mr Lyons, was particularly proud of winning the Bateson’s Challenge Shield.

Ten teams competed against each other over two days, with events such as First aid, observation, shooting and skill at arms. The Movilla Army Cadets took the main prize with the Bateson’s Challenge Shield, as well as the Best shooting trophy and Best section commander, won by Sergeant Kyle Clarke.

And with a new multi camo uniform to arrive over Easter, the Movilla Army Cadets are ready to be suited and booted as their senior cadets prepare for the Junior Cadet instruction card, a qualification which allows the Seniors to become instructors themselves. Having been invited by the school, the cadets have seen a rise in the number of recruits from the school, with even the teachers, Mr Forbes and Mr Lyons, getting involved.

The cadets are opened to anyone from the age of 12 to 18 and they meet every Wednesday night at Movilla High School from 7 to 9.30 pm.
