Key Stage 3

KS3 Technology and Design is taught to all year 8, 9 and 10 pupils. During these two years they are introduced to the subject and the importance of health and safety within the subject. Pupils will have the opportunity to manufacture a minimum of six products including a Paddle boat and a Steady hand game, which will give an introduction to electronics. The projects build upon skills learnt in the previous project throughout KS3 to allow pupils to work with all types of materials and electronics in different situations. At the end of each year pupils will sit an exam on the theory that has been taught over the year.

Key Stage 4

This is chosen by pupils who have studied a Technology and Design based in Year 11 and 12. Subjects on offer include, Edexcel GCSE Design and Technology, CCEA Occupational Studies and OCN NI Vocational Studies. Over the two years’ pupils will study topics such as health and safety, tools and equipment within a joinery setting, industrial and commercial processes, sustainability and career opportunities within building and construction. Pupils will be involved in a research portfolio and practical projects which are worth 100% of their final grade. This will involve manufacturing a number of products which will develop their joinery skills.
